2021-2022 Wrestling Season Was A Huge Success!!

The 2021-2022 Wrestling Season was a huge success for all levels of Solon Wrestling!  We had over 140 wrestlers participate from the Youth level through High School.

At the youth level, we had three of our wrestlers qualify for the OYWA District Tournament – Max Frank (2nd grade), Henry Hodermarsky (4th grade) and Wesley Cayne (6th grade), with Henry placing second to qualify for the OYWA State Tournament.  Jimmy Glasenapp (Kindergarten) also placed fourth at the Sectional Tournament. Additionally, Henry qualified for the OAC Grade School State Tournament and earned Eighth Place!!  First Grader Marley Frank became the first female wrestler in Solon history to wrestle at the OAC Girls State Tournament and also became Solon’s first STATE FINALIST as she finished the tournament as Runner-up.  Great job Marley and Henry!!

The Solon Middle School team earned a share of the Greater Cleveland Conference Championship and had 13 wrestlers place at the GCC Conference Tournament.  Tyler Ineman, PJ Tomazic and Michael Fry were Conference Champions. Michael Monroe, Jack Molchak, Nic Gabor and Daniel Ramsey were Conference Runners-Up.  Payton Szach, Kevin Lee, Hank Wagner, Brandon Polomsky and Noah Fried placed third while AJ Jefferson placed fourth. Great job Comets!!

Zack Aquila also won the OH-WAY State Championship while PJ placed 3rd. Both Zack and Tyler also won the OAC Divisional State Tournament.

The High School team had its best season in a long time.  In addition to being GCC Co-Champions, the Comets were Sectional Runners-up, placed 5th at Districts and 21st at the OHSAA State Tournament.

Individually, the Comets had 13 placewinners at the Sectional Tournament with Adom Sharpley, Nick Molchak, Nick Gerome and Michael Frenk winning Championships. Kevin Grunzweig and Malakhi Sharpley were Runners-up. Donovon Jackson placed third and Frank Aquila,  Anthony Onyiorah and Tyler Brown placed fourth. Also placing were Ricky Berns (5th), Christian Gau (5th) and Daryl Brown (6th). The top four at each weight advanced to Districts.
