COACHES

Head Coach: Mike Thompson

Coach Thompson has been coaching with the Solon Wrestling Program since 1995 as a member of the High School and Middle School Staffs.  He was named Assistant Coach of the Year by the Greater Cleveland Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association following the 2014-2015 season. He is a graduate of Kenston High School and Cleveland State University, where he wrestled for two years.  He has two sons, Kevin Hardy and Brandon Thompson, who each won three OHSAA State Championships for Solon. Kevin went on to become a 2x NAIA All-American, finishing 3rd for Notre Dame College in 2011 and 1st in the NATION for Oklahoma City University in 2012.  Brandon is a current Assistant Coach at Solon High School.

Assistant Coach/Club Vice President: Rob Farley

Coach Farley is the Head Coach of Solon Middle School and has been coaching wrestling for over 10 years.  He previously was an assistant coach at Chagrin Falls High School.  He is a 1992 graduate of Solon High School, earning three varsity letters in wrestling, three varsity letters in football and three varsity letters in track. He was a district qualifier in 1992 and was a member of Solon's 1990 OHSAA Division II State Championship team.  He was Solon's team captain for the 1991-1992 season.   He went on to play college football at John Carroll University where he earned three varsity letters, graduating in 1997. He is married to Maria Farley and they have three children; Talia, Lola and Vinny (a member of the Solon Wrestling Club).

Assistant Coach/Club President: Eric Brooks

Coach Brooks returned to coaching wrestling in 2019 as a volunteer coach with the Solon Wrestling Club. Previously he coached at Harrison High School as a volunteer coach.  He is a USA Wrestling Bronze Level Certified Coach. He was a co-founder of Cornhusker Wrestling Club (Freestyle & Greco-Roman club based in Harrison, Ohio) and was an assistant coach with the Cincinnati Wrestling Club (Freestyle & Greco-Roman). While at Harrison and in Cincinnati, he coached State Champions, NCAA All-Americans and a 2012 Olympian.  He is a 1992 graduate of Solon High School, earning one varsity letter in wrestling and was a member of Solon's 1990 OHSAA Division II State Championship team.  He graduated from Miami University in 1996 where he was a member of the school's Cheerleading Team. He is married to Suzanne Brooks and they have two children; Ruby and Lyla.

Assistant Coach: Kore Sharpley

Coach Sharpley has been volunteering his time with the Solon Wrestling Club for over five years. He also has served as an Assistant Coach at Solon High School.  On the mat, he won the 1996 OHSAA Division I 112 Pound State Championship while competing for Shaker Heights.  After graduating from Shaker, he went on the wrestle at The Ohio State University, where he was a two-time NCAA Qualifier. He is married to Kendrah Sharpley and they have four children, including Solon wrestlers Malakhi (high school) and Adom (middle school).

Assistant Coach: Nick Canitano

Coach Canitano has been volunteering his time with the Solon Wrestling Club since 2009.  He is a 1988 graduate of Solon High School, earning three varsity letters in wrestling. While at Solon, he was a three-time Solon Comet Classic finalist, winning two titles and was voted the tournament MVP in 1987.  He went on to wrestle at Miami University where he was a four-year letterman, three-time Mid American Conference placewinner and was Team Captain for the 1992-1993 season.  After graduating from Miami, he was a Graduate Assistant Coach for the Redskins from 1993-1994.  He has three children; Alex, Jake and Abby. Jake was a three-time OHSAA State Placer for Solon, finishing 5th as a Freshman, 3rd as a Junior and was State Runner-Up as a Senior in 2019.

Assistant Coach: Paul Hodermarsky

Coach Hodermarsky joins the coaching staff for the 2019-20 season.  He is a 1999 graduate of Olmsted Falls School where he was a highly decorated wrestler.  While at Olmsted Falls, he won 110 matches (46 by fall), was a SWC Conference Champion and two-time OHSAA State Placer, finishing 5th place in 1998 and 3rd place in 1999.  He was named Team MVP in 1999 and was inducted into the Olmsted Falls Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2011.  He went on to wrestle for four years at Ohio University.  He was named OU Redshirt of the Year in 2002, MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week in 2003, Academic All-MAC in 2003. He also earned a masters degree from Case Western Reserve University. He is married to Lauren Hodermarsky (a Solon Grad) and they have three children, including Solon Wrestling Club member Henry (2nd grade).
